Vintage Foster Bros Fly Fishing Reel—Dingley Made 3.5 in.
For sale is a 3.5 in diameter vintage fly fishing reel made in the Dingley shop and marketed by Foster Bros of Ashbourne, England.
Reel is in very good condition, retaining almost all of its original finish. The spool is tight and runs smoothly, as does the clicker drag. The reel seat is unmodified and marked “Made in England”. There are no line marks on the frame and the brass line guard is in excellent condition. Overall this is a very clean reel with no corrosion scratches or dings and as I said before almost all of the original finish remains. The frame is marked on the interior with “2 L Q” and the spool is marked with a corresponding “2”, but the line guard is marked with a “3” (all codes for the individual craftsmen who made this reel).
Comes with old line backing.
Foster Bros marketed this reel as the “Scarsdale”, but it mimics the Hardy St George model. Foster Bros recommended this 3.5 in reel for Sea Trout fishing.
This reel is from my personal collection, which I am trying to thin out.
