    Description

This auction is for a WW1 German Medal Bar, as well as WW1 and Pre-WW1 Austrian Medals and a Sanger Bund pin. I received this collection of medals in the early 1990's from my next door neighbor, whose husband served in the US Army during WW2.  He served in Germany and Austria and brought these back at the end of the war.  In addition to the medals, the auction includes an original photo of Corporal Peter Materie taken in Linz, Austria at the end of the war, with the medals displayed on his chest. The back of the photo reads "Relaxing with my medals in LInz Austria  Herr Big Shot Materie. Both the medal bar and the loose medals must have been from long serving soldiers, as both groups cover a number of years and include long service medals.
The medal bar includes a WW1 Iron Cross, a Medal for Merit In War (issue by Saxe-Meiningen), a 1914-1918 Honor Cross, and a Faithful Service Award Second Class (for 25 years - issue beginning in 1938). NOTE: The emblem on the Faithful Service Award has been covered for the photo, but the medal is complete as issued. The medals are all in very good conditoin, with two small moth holes on the Iron Cross ribbon.  The bar is backed with green felt and has the brass pin clasp.
The individual medals must have been from an Austro-Hungarian soldier.  The include the Karl-Truppendreuz (Karl-Troops Cross) issued between 7-1-1917 and 6-30-1918, the Jubilee Cross for the Military (issued in 1898 for the Austro Hungarian Emperor's 50th Anniversary on the throne), Austria Long Service Cross for non-commissioned officers, the Medal For Military Merit (early version as the it has the oak leaves on the reverse of the suspension), and the Commemorative Medal of the World War, issued by Hungary after WW1.
Finally a Pre-WW1 Sanger Bund pin in gold tone metal and enamel.  Beautiful pin, marked on the back A. BELADA WIEN.VII.2 BURGGASSE 40.
The photos show the medals mounted on a finished oak plaque that measures 9 x 9. Everything has been mounted so that is easily removable.
If you want the oak plaque, then shipping will be in a Medium flate rate USPS Priority Box.  If you don't want the oak plaque, then shipping will be in a
    Small
flat rate USPS Priority Box.  At the end of the auction the winning bidder should let me know if they want the plaque or not and I will send them the correct invoice.
